ISA Art Gallery presents TUDUNG SUDUNG, an exhibition featuring the works of Mulyana and Sekar Puti. The exhibition showcases their three-dimensional creations crafted from their respective mediums of expertise: yarn for Mulyana and clay for Sekar Puti. They delve into the profound meaning of home through the lenses of social dynamics, cultural influences, and personal identities.

The title of the exhibition, TUDUNG SUDUNG, combines two words: Tudung, representing covering and protection, and Sudung, referring to the temporary dwellings used by the Rimba tribe during their nomadic lifestyle. This combination symbolizes home as a sanctuary that safeguards its essence. Home extends beyond a physical structure and encompasses the broader concepts of familial bonds, homeland, and anything that fosters a sense of belonging and security in life.

Through this exhibition, we will invite you to contemplate the profound significance of "home" and its diverse interpretations in our ever-changing world.

ISA ART GALLERY ARTISTS IN ARTJOG | ARDI GUNAWAN AND YOSEFA AULIA

ISA Art Gallery is proud to announce that two of our artists will be participating in ARTJOG in Jogja National Museum Fri, Jun 30, 2023 – Sun, Aug 27, 2023.

Let us introduce you to the first artist, Ardi Gunawan.

He is an artist who uses vibrant colors and integrates elements from historical fantasies and personal experiences. In the upcoming ARTJOG event, Ardi will showcase paintings that capture a unique combination of grotesque and joyful paradoxes, occupying a space between abstract and figurative representations while also embodying elements of speculation and expression. Among the subjects depicted in Ardi's paintings are common family moments in Indonesia, such as weddings and graduations. These significant occasions are portrayed while incorporating aspects of Asger Jorn's modified painting technique.

Ardi draws inspiration from a range of sources, such as kitschy commercial photography found in traditional Chinese-Indonesian paintings and 1950s American advertisements depicting nuclear families. These references are gathered from diverse mediums like the internet, old photo albums, and interactions with people in his surroundings. Here is a glimpse of his works that will be exhibited in ARTJOG.

The second artist we would like to introduce is Yosefa Aulia.

Her artistic practice merges elements of surrealism with the essence of ordinary life, delving into the narratives of other families. Her artwork harmoniously blends humans and nature, painted in captivating shades ranging from merlot red to various human skin tones, dark green, and earthy yellow.

Her creations exhibit extraordinary imagery, such as headless figures sprouting from plants infused with romantic influences. Aptly labeled as "Romantic-gore," Yosefa presents her large-scale pieces for ARTJOG. In a departure from her prior works, Yosefa incorporates new elements like poultries, such as geese and birds, and sparkling additions like golden cups, chains, and lamps.

Yosefa's art often portrays paradoxical plants, embodying the complexities within humanity. These plants, capable of nurturing and harming, metaphorically represent the multifaceted nature of human beings, challenging the notion of absolutes.

While construction, destruction, and categorization themes are evident, Yosefa's work is grounded yet interconnected, reminding us of our hidden depths. It prompts contemplation on the intricacies of human existence. Let's take a look into Yosefa Aulia's progress for ARTJOG!
