Art Jakarta Garden

Art Jakarta introduces an art exhibition with a view, Art Jakarta Gardens. Art Jakarta Gardens presents works exhibited by art galleries and a sculpture park, located in Hutan Kota Plataran. ISA Art & Design presents Aaron Taylor Kuffner, Eddi Prabandono, Jompet Kuswidananto and a solo show by Ida Lawrence, Fermented Feelings. Art Jakarta Gardens is held in 7 – 14 April 2022.

Fermented Feelings, a solo show by Ida Lawrence, is a series that showed Ida’s playfulness and absurd experiences, giving more character to her stories of everyday things. She plays with color and compositions to recontextualize the stories. The paintings in this series is in two-toned hues of reds and blues. She also utilized negative space by showing unique compositions in the painting.

Influenced by her multicultural background, in Fermented Feelings Ida shared about the cultural differences she had while her stay in Indonesia. Ida explores the relationship between fermentation and cultural differences and topics of travel and family. In this series, she shows its relation through a traveling tradition in Indonesia. Ida finds interesting ways to narrate aspects that could be easily missed out on.

Islamic Art at WTC

ISA Art & Design presents Islamic Art which will be held from 3 April 2022 in WTC. To welcome the month of Ramadan, ISA Art has curated works to be exhibited based on the depth of the artist's narrative to welcome the big day of Muslims. Art, especially religious art, is an external expression of an artist's personal view. When hearing the word spiritual, artists think of a connection to something bigger than oneself, such as God and the universe. Artists – regardless of their personal beliefs – turn to spiritual philosophy and theological iconography to discuss their beliefs and understand the present moment. The way artists see the spiritual aspect of an art is also different, so these narratives are considered important enough to remind us of the diverse perspectives of each of the artists participating in this exhibition.

Islamic Art is an art exhibition for artists from various regions in Indonesia to share how they welcome and celebrate the holy month of Ramadan through art. Art is one of many ways of expressing one’s ideas and thoughts, and Ramadan is a month that teaches about kindness, patience, tolerance, love and happiness. The ideas taught in the month of Ramadan can be seen in various creative media at this exhibition.

Artist Spotlight: Eddi Prabandono

Eddi Prabandono, born in Pati, Central Java 1964, studied Art at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts, Yogyakarta (Institut Seni Indonesia Yogyakarta). He is based in Yogyakarta, Indonesia and Okinawa, Japan. Eddi is an artist who creates large-scale pieces design. Involving design, planning, and construction, Eddi also works with many workers to create installations with careful calculation.

Eddi has held several solo exhibitions, such as: After Duchamp: Bicycle Wheel, Ark Galerie, Jakarta (2011); Wonderful Fool, Red Mill Gallery, Johnson, USA (2010); Strategic Presentation: Sculpture Luz and Illusion, SIGIarts, Jakarta (2009). His works are also displayed in several public spaces in Shanghai.

Eddi’s works, ‘Sweat and Luxury’ and ‘Untitled’ will be displayed at Art Jakarta Gardens 2022 in Hutan Kota Plataran. Untitled is an aluminum plates installation with three icons in the form of a smile, a nuclear symbol and a skull. The story behind this work is about Fukushima in 2011. ‘Sweat and Luxury’ is a rickshaw and crystal chandelier installations which tells about the right to get luxury for hard workers. Someone is not entitled to enjoy luxury if they don’t work hard. Eddi got the idea when reading an article about African gem miners who works really hard to mine the gems but only got low salary. But when the gem is turned into a jewelry and being sold in Europe, the price is high compared to the miners’ salary.
