Arahmaiani’s “The Flag Project '' installation is now gracing the grounds of Potato Head Bali. The installation extends and reimagines the experience of Arahmaiani's original performance art “Baleganjur” in the Potato Head courtyard alongside a procession of colorful flags. The flags were each handmade by Balinese communities for a project led by Arahamaiani.
As an artist and environmental activist, Arahmaiani was inspired by Yogyakarta communities in the wake of the devastating earthquake in 2006. Arahmaiani facilitated self-inquiry and dialogue among Yogyakarta communities through local wisdom. They created flags with native Jawiscript words, promoting harmony. The project has been replicated globally to facilitate conversations across different faiths, religions, and beliefs.
