Albert Camus, in his seminal work “The Myth of Sisyphus” (1942), explored how humans confront life through art and existential rebellion. For Camus, art becomes a means to assert existence and create purpose amidst chaos. Artists, like Sisyphus, embody this struggle by persistently creating works that offer moments of beauty and significance, despite their awareness of life's absurdity. The exhibition showcases artists who, through their ceaseless efforts, reflect on universal human experiences and communicate across time, demonstrating art's role in navigating and finding meaning in the repetitive and arduous aspects of life.

Everything We Inherit exhibition explores the layers of identity, memory, and legacy we carry within us. This curated collection brings together contemporary artists from diverse backgrounds, each offering their unique perspective on the inheritance of culture, history, and personal narratives. The exhibition celebrates the 50th year anniversary of Australian Mission to ASEAN and dialogue relations by bringing artists from Australia with diverse ASEAN backgrounds-- Agus Wijaya, Emma Ranni Hodges-Vanitlertpibon, Ida Lawrence, Janelle Low, Jenna Lee, Jumaadi, Linda Sok, Melissa Nguyen, Sangeeta Sandrasegar, and Zico Albaiquni.
Through a range of media—from painting and sculpture to mixed media and digital works—the exhibition delves into themes of ancestral heritage, familial bonds, and the complex interplay between past and present. These artworks ask compelling questions: How do the traditions and memories passed down to us shape who we are today? What do we choose to preserve, and what do we let go of?
Everything We Inherit offers a space for reflection, inviting viewers to consider their own connections to heritage, both personal and collective. Each piece in the exhibition is a testament to the power of art to keep stories alive, transcending time and geography.

Our annual Women’s Show at World Trade Centre 3, entitled ‘Rentang Hara’—is dedicated to showcasing the works of Indonesian women artists. This time around we are bringing Anita Bonit, Arum Dayu, Evelyn Pritt, Farra Lie, Natasha Lubis, and Tennessa Querida. The exhibition invites viewers to critically engage with Indonesia’s cultural and social landscape, interpreted through the diverse perspectives of women artists from various backgrounds, regions, and experiences.
The annual Women’s Show provides a platform for the exploration of national identity, heritage, and cultural narratives, as constructed and deconstructed by women. By presenting works that intertwine traditional motifs with contemporary practices, the exhibition not only reflects the evolving role of women within the nation’s sociocultural framework but also critiques the complexities of gender, identity, and history in Indonesian society. It is an invitation to reflect on how gender intersects with issues of heritage, power, and representation in this ever-changing world.

We are pleased to announce the exhibition of "Reality Check," a solo exhibition featuring the autofiction story-paintings of Ida Lawrence, curated by Dwi S. Wibowo.
In this exhibition, Lawrence explores a dynamic interplay of images, text, and patterns, weaving narratives that span Indonesia, Australia, Germany, and beyond. Her approach may challenge conventional notions of realism, offering viewers fresh perspectives and stimulating discourse on the nature of representation in contemporary art.
Lawrence, one of the featured artists at the Ubud Writers’ Festival 2024 has crafted a composition where books form letters spelling out the theme in Sanskrit ‘Satyam Vada Dharmam Chara: Speak the Truth, Practice Kindness’. This work and others will be presented at the opening on Saturday, 19 October 2024, from 18:00 to 19:30 (Bali time). This is an excellent opportunity to engage with her work and discuss the thematic elements present in her paintings.
From August to October 2024, the Indian Ocean Craft Triennial (IOTA) will present a landmark international exhibition, uniting over 200 artists from across the Indian Ocean region. This prestigious multi-country event spans Australia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, and South Africa, positioning itself as a major platform for cultural dialogue and artistic exchange on a global scale.
Among the distinguished participants is ISA’s artist A. Sebastianus. Sebastianus is featured in the highly anticipated satellite exhibition of the Indian Ocean Craft Triennial-- "The Language of Craft in Contemporary Southeast Asia." Hosted by Cult Gallery in partnership with the Kreatif KL Festival in Malaysia, this exhibition stands as an essential part of the Triennial. Sebastianus' work delves deeply into the ritualized process of batik-making as a sacred act of memorialization. He calls this practice 'Mmbaka Satitik'—‘until/from one point to another,’ where each dot (titik) in the batik embodies a moment in time, a fragment of memory, “a particle of my body, of my form.” His contribution to the exhibition amplifies the Triennial's celebration of craft as a medium for both personal and cultural storytelling.
