Urban Dialogues #3
Urban art is a work of art that is displayed in public spaces being considered as a necessary form for the state of the society and a medium of communication between communities. In Indonesia, urban art can be traced back in the late 1990s and it’s still continue to expand, which now has become a phenomenon. Urban art was first emerged during the New Order authoritarian regime, where urban art was still small and considered as a daring movement at that time. Now, urban art is used as a platform for the artists who are living in urban areas to communicate their problems to the society. “Urban Dialogue #3” is a project with the purpose of building dialogue through art media to public spaces. It’s flexible and non-massive space-forming elements where the artworks are put in familiar urban area locations in order for the artworks to be accessible to all levels of society without any boundaries. Explores the works of 7 Indonesian artists who have taken their urban context into art practices into new light and perspectives. Puri Dhini has an interest in urban and community influences. Vienasty is interested in generic perceptions and stereotypical perceptions of visual images that emerge from the internet. Eko Sutrisno with his project about Cicadas. Condro raises the problem of color composition that occurs in urban areas crowded with advertisements or billboards from promoting brands. Akbar emphasized remembering the elements based on land other than the sky. The daily activity of Urban Woman inspired Sillyndris. And Erik has long been interested in bringing up themes from industrial areas.
