Marisa R Ng Malaysia, b. 1977

Overview

Marisa R Ng, born in 1977 in Malaysia, discovered her passion for art during a transformative trip to Pulau Kapas while studying at the National Academy of Arts, Culture & Heritage (ASWARA) in Kuala Lumpur. This pivotal experience led her to pursue fine arts under the guidance of renowned Malaysian abstract artists Suzlee Ibrahim and Ismadi Sallehudin. With a deep connection to abstract expressionism, Marisa believes that pure abstract art emerges from the soul and mind. In 2022, she began experimenting with aluminium, using it as a metaphor to explore human relationships, behaviour, and societal systems. Her work focuses on the interplay between different materials like paints, bitumen, and wood stains, using aluminium bars to control pressure and reveal the underlying surface, all while balancing force and cohesion in her creative process.

Marisa has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions across Southeast Asia, including Malaysia and Indonesia. Her recent showcases include TAKSU Kuala Lumpur’s "Locals Only! 2024" exhibition and the 2023 group exhibition "afterlife" in Kuala Lumpur. Currently, she is undertaking a residency with Rovski Sdn Bhd. Her work is featured in both public and private collections, with notable placements in Air Asia Red Q, The Bar Council Malaysia, and the Amari Hotel. Marisa's art is celebrated not just in Malaysia but also in Singapore and London, where it continues to captivate diverse audiences.
