Galih Johar Indonesian, b. 1990
Galih Johar (born 1990) graduated in 2017 with a degree in ceramics from an art school in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Initially, working with clay became part of his daily routine. He believed that certain elements found in clay, such as calcium, magnesium, iron, potassium, and silica, were the same as those found in the human body. This led him to speculate that perhaps clay was the result of decomposition of living beings from the past.
Over time, Galih Johar realized that these elements also existed in many familiar everyday objects. He began to wonder if, as living beings, we are merely a composition of materials. If everything is just material, many questions arose in his mind about the meaning and value of life. This exploration prompted him to play with different concepts and values in his art.
With artistic execution that can use any medium, Galih Johar expresses his unique perspective through his works, communicating his ideas through a distinctive visual language.
