Angki Purbandono Indonesian, b. 1971

Overview

Angki Purbandono is one of Indonesia's most prominent artists from culturally rich Yogyakarta. He is noted for his scanographies, which are photographic images created from scanning objects using a flat-bed image scanner. Scan art has been around for some time now, but Angki Purbandono's approach is unique and not without wit and social statements. He is one of the mentors in a government program Learning with Maestro. In his works, Angki continuously goes beyond the limits of photography within visual arts scope.

 

He had participated in many exhibitions and projects such Asian Artist Fellowship, Changdong Art Studio, South Korea (2005-2006), Pameran LIVE and LET LIVE: Creators of Tomorrow, 4th Fukuoka Asian Triennale (2009), Jakarta Biennale XIII 2009 ARENA: Zona Pertarungan, Jakarta (2009) and Bangkok Art Biennale (BAB18), Bangkok, Thailand (2018). His solo exhibitions are 2 Folders from Fukuoka, Fukuoka Asian Art Museum, Fukuoka, Japan (2010) - Grey Area, Bangkok University Gallery, Bangkok, Thailand (2017) among others. Angki studied at Modern School of Design (MSD) Yogyakarta and Indonesian Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta. He is one of the founders of Ruang MES 56, a media art collective and later he established PAPs (Prison Art Programs).
