Jumaadi's practice is informed by personal experience as well as the political and aesthetic lineages of his homeland, including the Javanese and Balinese tradition of wayang kulit (shadow-puppet plays). Through a poetic sensibility and subtle symbolism, Jumaadi weaves a personal iconography of human and organic motifs to explore universal themes such as love, conflict, and belonging. His work exemplifies the reevaluation of past traditions, integrating them into contemporary artistic expressions that resonate on a global scale.
