‘Essence of a Thing (Naum Gabo)’ is a name derived from the Modernist sculptor Naum Gabo who was the muse of Sinta Tantra’s series of paintings exhibited for the Soho Room in the UK. “Color is accidental and has nothing in common with the essence of a thing”, said Gabo in his life. Tantra’s paintings, however – bold patterns and vivid arrangements of shape, defined by pigmented brushstrokes – enthusiastically disagree: colour is, in fact, the very essence of a thing.
