Hardijanto Budiman Indonesian, b. 1968

Overview

Hardijanto Budiman, Having won more than 200 Awards from many prestigious photography events around the globe, the Jakarta-based visual artist Hardijanto Budiman, also known as Hardi Budi, classifies himself not as a ‘pure’ photographer. He uses the camera as a medium to capture his life journey where he is able to express his imagination, emotion and experiences through the lens. His style of practice consists of conceptual contemporary photography. A conceptual photography often illustrates an idea or imagination from the mind of an artist to be transformed into reality by ‘capturing’ it. This is Budi’s expertise as he likes to think outside the box and think beyond the ordinary reality. The artist calls his works “Imaginary Story Pictures” in which he is the imaginary story teller. His love towards Surreal Art affects his artistic style to be strongly influenced by Surrealism. In 2021, Budi was awarded in Chromatic Awards as the first winner in conceptual professional category. Within the same year, he won awards from All About Photo, “Smile World” International Photography Awards, Vienna International Photo Award, and Chromatic Photography Awards. He has also won several awards from Siena Awards and Moscow International Foto Awards in the following year. The artist's oeuvre has been published by several media and publications including Forbes, Vogue, Detik, and Kompas, and has been shown in several exhibitions including 15th China Yixian Photo Festival, Shanghai International Photo Festival, Siena International Photo Exhibition, and Gauting International Photoweek all in 2020. He continued to exhibit his work at Venice Photo Lab and Isa Art & Design in 2021. He is currently a Nikon Indonesia Brand Ambassador.
